Dr. Courtney Turner has been named assistant professor of audiology in The University of Southern Mississippi School of Speech and Hearing Sciences after more than 11 years serving as pediatric audiologist for The Children鈥檚 Center for Communication and Development.
In her new role, Turner will help train the next generation of audiologists while continuing her work at the intersection of education, hearing health and child development. Her experience serving children with hearing loss and their families will bring valuable clinical expertise and a child-centered perspective to the classroom.
Throughout her career at The Children's Center, Turner became a trusted resource for families navigating the complexities of hearing loss. She worked to translate complex audiological needs into meaningful educational strategies, helping shape the Center's approach to serving children with hearing differences.
An advocate for children with hearing loss, Turner also contributed to statewide efforts
to improve systems of care and support for families across Mississippi. Her dedication
to hearing health and early intervention has been evident through both her clinical
work and her efforts to advance the field.
"Dr. Turner's impact on The Children's Center and the families we serve has been extraordinary,"
said Sarah Myers, director of The Children's Center for Communication and Development.
"Although we are sad to see her leave the Center, we are proud to see her continue
her commitment to improving the lives of children with hearing loss through her new
role at Southern Miss. We know she will inspire and prepare future audiologists to
make a difference for children and families across Mississippi."
As a faculty member at Southern Miss, Turner will help shape curriculum, mentor future
audiologists and prepare students to serve children and families with the same commitment
that has defined her career. Mississippi's children and families will continue to
benefit from her advocacy through the education and training of future hearing health
professionals.
