We will consider the approved 2026 School Policies and Procedures to be labeled as 2026 School P & P. References to the version of School Policies and Procedures approved prior to 2026 will be referenced as the 鈥渇ormer鈥� version.
Approved 2026 School Policies and Procedures will be posted to the Office of the Provost webpage in July 2026 and begin a phased implementation.
- New faculty members who join the USM faculty ranks in August 2026 will follow the new 2026 School Policies and Procedures for annual evaluations and promotion and tenure guidelines.
- For faculty in their 2nd year or later, annual evaluations for Calendar Year 2026, which will be submitted in January 2027, will follow the former version of the School Policies and Procedures.
- Faculty submitting applications in AY 2026-2027 for promotion to professor rank or promotion within the teaching track will reference former School Policies and Procedures. Beginning in AY 2027-2028, faculty submitting applications for promotion to professor rank or promotion within the teaching track will reference 2026 School Policies and Procedures.
- For Calendar Year 2027 annual evaluations and beyond, all faculty will follow the 2026 School Policies and Procedures.
- Applications submitted for promotion and tenure in the AY 2026-2027 review cycle will use the former School Policies and Procedures.
- For AY 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 Promotion and Tenure applications, there will be an optional textbox for faculty to explain any potential impact of the updated 2026 School Policies and Procedures to review committees as well as an ability to request a one-time, one-year extension to meet the new guidelines (see asterisks in chart below).
- For AY 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 Promotion and Tenure applications, faculty will have the ability to request a one-year extension for promotion and tenure to meet the new guidelines.
