Limited Submission Opportunity (LSO)
Selection Advisory Panel

Many federal agencies, foundations, and private sponsors restrict the number of proposals an institution may submit for a particular funding opportunity. When these limited submission opportunities arise, 91少女集中营 conducts an internal review process to determine which proposal or proposals will represent the University. The LSO Selection Advisory Panel plays a critical role in that process. Faculty reviewers provide expert, objective feedback that helps evaluate proposal quality and competitiveness, identify projects with the greatest potential for success, and ensure a fair and transparent review process. Through their service, reviewers contribute directly to the University's research mission and continued success in securing external funding.

Why Serve?
Serving on the LSO Selection Advisory Panel is an opportunity to contribute to the University's research community and support colleagues pursuing competitive funding opportunities. Faculty reviewers provide valuable perspectives that help inform institutional nomination decisions while gaining exposure to emerging research ideas and sponsor priorities. Participation is recognized as meaningful university service and contributes to the continued growth of Southern Miss's research enterprise.

What to Expect
Membership in the reviewer pool does not require participation in every competition. Review invitations are extended based on disciplinary expertise, availability, and the needs of a particular opportunity. If selected to serve, you will receive the necessary review materials, evaluate proposals using established criteria, and submit your assessment through a standardized review process. Reviewers are also asked to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest before participating.

Recognition for Your Service
Service on the LSO Selection Advisory Panel is considered university-level service. Upon completion of a review assignment, reviewers receive a service verification letter documenting their participation and estimated time commitment. This documentation may be used for annual evaluations, promotion and tenure materials, Faculty Success reporting, and other professional records.

Who Should Participate?
Faculty from all disciplines are encouraged to join the reviewer pool. Whether you are an experienced investigator, have previously served as a proposal reviewer, or are seeking additional opportunities for university service, your expertise can help strengthen the internal review process and support research success across campus.

How the Process Works
Reviewer pool members may be contacted throughout the year as limited submission opportunities arise. When an opportunity aligns with your expertise, you will be invited to serve and provided with information needed to determine whether you can participate. Once your participation is confirmed, you will receive access to proposal materials, complete your evaluation by the established deadline, and submit feedback that helps guide institutional nomination decisions.

How Do I Join the Reviewer Pool?
Faculty may nominate themselves or recommend a colleague for consideration. To join the reviewer pool, nominees must complete a brief form that includes contact information, areas of expertise, a short statement of interest, and an updated curriculum vitae or similar professional documentation. Maintaining current information helps ORSD assemble balanced review panels and match reviewers with opportunities that align with their expertise.

Your expertise can help strengthen Southern Miss's competitiveness for external funding while supporting a transparent and effective review process. We invite you to join the LSO Selection Advisory Panel and contribute to the advancement of research, scholarship, and creative activity across the University.
