Environmental Geosciences
Environmental geosciences explores the Earth, the natural processes that shape it and the ways people interact with the environment. Through coursework in geography and geology, you will study Earth鈥檚 composition and dynamics, natural resources, environmental problems and hazards, and sustainable development while learning how geospatial technologies can be used to better understand our changing environment.
You will also work with faculty to build experience in the field and in data analysis, preparing you for a range of environmental science career paths in both the public and private sectors.
What Will I Learn?
The Environmental Geosciences program blends geographical and geological principles with the study of human-environment interactions and the application of geospatial technologies.
You will gain experience in:
- Environmental assessment: Hydrologic analysis, soil sampling, GPS and topographic surveys
- Geologic surveys: Geologic mapping, ground-penetrating radar, rock and mineral identification and structural analysis
- Ecosystem sciences: Climate and meteorological trends, ecosystem-climate-human interactions and biodiversity assessments
- Geospatial analysis: Spatial data, web mapping and cartographic design
- UAVs and satellites: Drone piloting, remote sensing theory and multispectral and hyperspectral analysis

Program Opportunities
There are 5 program-specific scholarships for undergraduates available.
Students in this program can participate in study abroad and field courses designed with their intrests in mind. These include a summer field program in Colorado and a study abroad course in Great Britain.
This program emphasizes fieldwork, the application of technical skills and the development of research capability in a particular emphasis area. Faculty mentor students who want to secure an internship.
