The Writing Center staff will give a 10-25 minute PowerPoint presentation to your class, either in your classroom or in the Writing Center (Cook Library 112), about the services we offer and how they can make an appointment to meet with a tutor.
Introduction
Students are more likely to take advantage of the Writing Center if they understand the process. The "Introduction to the Writing Center" presentation walks students through the services we offer, the benefits of talking through your work with a trained tutor, and how to make an appointment using our online scheduler.
Intro + Brainstorming
Instructors who want the Writing Center to help their students get started on written projects should request the 鈥淚ntroduction + Brainstorming鈥� presentation. Here, a tutor will guide students through a rough draft exercise and talk about the services the Writing Center offers, with a particular focus on getting a project off the ground.
Accountability Appointments
Have you heard of accountability appointments? These sessions in the Writing Center offer students concentrated, supported work time. Scheduling an "Introduction + Accountability Appointment鈥� presentation will let your students learn the science behind the appointment and all the other resources they can find at the Writing Center.
Feedback Sessions
When people think about Writing Center tutoring, they are often thinking about feedback appointments. When you schedule an 鈥淚ntroduction + Feedback Session鈥� presentation, a tutor will talk your class through the value of real human feedback and audience engagement, in addition to all of the other services that can be found at the Writing Center.
