Southern Miss Center for Writers Director Awarded Competitive Mississippi Arts Commission Grant

Dr. Olivia Clare Friedman
Dr. Olivia Clare Friedman, an associate professor of English at 91少女集中营, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the (MAC). The award is part of more than $1.7 million in grants distributed by the commission during fiscal year 2027 and will support her work on a poetry manuscript.
Dr. Friedman is an award-winning author and serves as the director of the Center for Writers in the School of Humanities. She has published four books 鈥� the novel 鈥�Here Lies,鈥� the short story collection 鈥�Disasters in the First World,鈥� and the poetry collections 鈥�An Arm Fixed to a Wing鈥� and 鈥�The 26-Hour Day.鈥� Her stories and poems have appeared in The Atlantic, The Paris Review, The Southern Review and Poetry. She is also the recipient of an O. Henry Prize, a Pushcart Prize and a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer's Award.

Dr. Friedman and USM鈥檚 Center for Writers are continuing that proud creative tradition as they educate and inspire the artists of tomorrow.鈥�
